🌾 Position Overview – Agronomist
We are currently seeking an experienced Agronomist who is passionate about modern farming, technology-driven agriculture, and sustainable food systems. You will play a crucial role in leading field operations, guiding crop production, and mentoring local teams at our state-of-the-art demonstration farm in Dodoma.
As an Agronomist, you’ll work closely with our interdisciplinary team to manage diverse cropping systems—including open fields, net houses, and orchards—while applying best practices in irrigation, fertigation, pest control, and data-driven agriculture.
🔍 Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement crop production plans tailored to local climate and soil conditions.
- Oversee irrigation and fertigation systems, optimizing efficiency and sustainability.
- Monitor plant health and execute integrated pest management (IPM) protocols.
- Collect and analyze agronomic data to improve yields and guide future decisions.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to farm staff and local extension officers.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities, field demonstrations, and stakeholder engagement.
âś… Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Crop Science, Agronomy, or a related field – Mandatory
- At least 3 years of hands-on agronomic experience in a similar role – Essential
- Proficiency with pressurized irrigation systems such as drip or sprinkler – Preferred
- Strong analytical, observational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent computer literacy for data entry, farm software, and report writing
- Effective communication skills in both English and Swahili – Required
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and adaptable to working in rural environments
