Tanzania’s rapid growth presents both opportunities and challenges, and UNICEF is dedicated to partnering with the Government and others to unlock every child’s full potential in this dynamic, youthful nation.

Tanzania is in a transformative phase, prioritizing growth, sustainability, and inclusivity. With progress in education, healthcare, and social inclusion, the country achieved lower-middle-income status in 2020.

Recognizing child rights, Tanzania ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1991 and enacted the Law of the Child Act in 2009, aligning with the UN CRC. UNICEF and the United Nations are committed to realizing the SDGs, focusing on children as agents of change and reducing inequality, which is essential for both SDGs and Tanzania’s development. UNICEF Tanzania firmly stands for “leaving no one behind,” ensuring all children reach their potential as healthy, productive adults.

Operating under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and One UN approach, we collaborate with UN agencies, partners, civil society, and the private sector, supporting Tanzania’s national priorities. Our Country Programme (2022-2027) aims for inclusive and sustainable development, emphasizing early childhood development, adolescent well-being, education, health, and child protection, with a focus on inclusivity.

As Tanzania transitions, UNICEF is committed to addressing challenges, and envisioning a nation where poverty, health, education, gender equality, child protection, and WASH are priorities. Together with the Government and partners, we aim to achieve the eight child-related SDGs by 2030. UNICEF is grateful to the Government of Tanzania and partners for their collaboration and support in creating a brighter future for Tanzania’s children and adolescents.
