Result of Service
The Editor will contribute to implementing the meaningful youth engagement component of the UN Youth Office by delivering launch-ready edited materials for its 2025 initiatives.

Background
The UN Youth Office was established in September 2022 by General Assembly resolution 76/306 to focus on youth affairs within the Secretariat. The office is mandated to foster meaningful youth engagement in policymaking and decision-making processes globally.

In 2025, the office plans to launch several key products under its UN System-Wide Coordination and Accountability (UNSCA) and Partnership, Advocacy and Communications (PAC) Sections. These products aim to strengthen the role of youth in governance and decision-making processes.

Scope of Work
The Editor will be responsible for copy-editing and proofreading various reports and strategy papers, collaborating closely with the UNYO team and a contracted graphic designer.

The deliverables include:

  1. Compendium of Good Practices on Meaningful Youth Engagement:
    • Edit and proofread the compendium to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy.
  2. Strategy Paper on National Youth Consultative Bodies:
    • Edit and refine the strategy paper for strengthening meaningful youth engagement at the national level.
  3. Strategy Paper on Global Youth Engagement:
    • Edit the strategy paper to ensure it is launch-ready, with precise language and adherence to editorial standards.

Qualifications and Special Skills

  • Education:
    • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Literature, Journalism, Humanities, Foreign Languages, International Relations, Arts, or related fields.
    • A first-level university degree combined with two years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of proven experience in proofreading and editing.
    • Strong understanding of editorial standards.
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality outputs within tight deadlines.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
    • Proficiency in other UN official languages is desirable.

Additional Information

  • This is a remote consultancy position.
  • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the consultant or their sponsoring institution.
