Result of Service
The Graphic Designer will contribute to the development of various products for the UN Youth Office’s initiative, “Making Meaningful Youth Engagement the Norm,” launching in 2025.
Background
The UN Youth Office (UNYO) was established in September 2022 through General Assembly resolution 76/306 to act as a dedicated entity for youth affairs within the UN Secretariat. The office is tasked with promoting meaningful youth engagement in policymaking and decision-making processes at local, national, and global levels.
As part of its mission, the UNYO will launch several products in 2025 under its UN System-Wide Coordination and Accountability (UNSCA) and Partnership, Advocacy and Communications (PAC) Sections. These products aim to strengthen youth engagement and advocate for inclusive participation in global governance.
Scope of Work
The Graphic Designer will lead the conceptualization, design, and layout of these products, collaborating closely with the UNSCA team and an editor contracted by UNYO. The deliverables include:
- Compendium of Good Practices on Meaningful Youth Engagement:
- Design and layout the draft compendium.
- Create draft social media assets for the compendium’s launch.
- Incorporate feedback to deliver the final version of the compendium and social media assets.
- Strategy Paper for Strengthening National Youth Consultative Bodies:
- Design and layout the draft strategy paper.
- Create draft social media assets for the strategy paper’s launch.
- Finalize the strategy paper and social media assets after incorporating feedback.
- Strategy Paper for Strengthening Global Youth Engagement:
- Design and layout the draft strategy paper.
- Create draft social media assets for the paper’s launch.
- Incorporate feedback and deliver the final version of the strategy paper and social media assets.
Qualifications and Special Skills
- Education: Advanced university degree in art, graphic design, or related fields.
- A first-level university degree combined with two years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years in graphic design with a focus on youth-friendly, innovative materials.
- Expertise in creating publications using Adobe InDesign or similar software.
- Experience designing for accessibility.
- Proficient in design illustration, animations, and creating materials for social media.
- Ability to present technical and numerical data creatively.
- Previous experience designing publications is desirable.
- Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required; proficiency in other UN languages is desirable.

- This is a remote consultancy position.
