About the Organization
The United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is responsible for carrying out essential functions that were previously undertaken by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. The IRMCT ensures the continuation of their legacies while promoting best practices in international criminal justice.

Internship Overview
This is an unpaid full-time internship opportunity. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of the Chief of the Human Resources Section or an assigned staff member within the section.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Internship Programme Management:
    • Serve as the focal point for internal and external inquiries regarding the Internship Programme.
    • Draft correspondence and handle telephone inquiries.
    • Prepare internship offer letters and follow up on required documentation.
    • Provide induction briefings to new interns.
    • Coordinate check-out procedures and update relevant databases.
  2. Administrative Duties:
    • Draft letters and Note Verbales for external offices.
    • File and update Human Resources Official Status Files (OSF).
    • Review and confirm compensatory time off (CTO) requests for approval.
    • Process attendance sheets submitted by various sections.
  3. Ad-Hoc Tasks:
    • Assist the Human Resources Section with other administrative duties when needed.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements at the time of application:

  • Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a first-level university degree (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate-level programme (Master’s degree or higher).

Additional Requirements:

  • A field of study relevant to Human Resources or Administration is required.
  • Previous experience in Human Resources or Administration is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) is required.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (e.g., French) is desirable.

Additional Information

  • This is an unpaid internship, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by the intern or their sponsoring institution.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
