Position Description

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and promote safety standards, including attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, using required PPE, and ensuring incident/accident reporting.
  • Follow maintenance procedures to perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance effectively, minimizing further damage to equipment.
  • Conduct equipment isolation, pre-start checks, and inspections, ensuring compliance with working at heights and confined space standards.
  • Troubleshoot and perform fault-finding activities to address unplanned equipment failures.
  • Ensure maintenance practices maximize equipment availability and meet production and cost targets.
  • Perform routine machine checks, PM inspections, and compliance with preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Carry out upgrades, modifications, and corrective maintenance on mobile and plant equipment.
  • Keep the Maintenance Supervisor and stakeholders informed about equipment availability status.
  • Identify mechanical equipment and resources, inspect tools, and follow up on outstanding maintenance tasks.
  • Actively participate in training activities to enhance skills and professional growth.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Certification: Mechanics Trade Certification, Full Technician’s Certificate, or VETA Grade One.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Mining Safety Regulations, Mines Health & Safety Act, and best practices.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of post-apprenticeship experience in mechanical operations.
    • Hands-on experience with Sandvik and Caterpillar machines (highly preferred).
    • Demonstrated ability in rebuilding and servicing mining mobile equipment.
    • Experience in both open-cast and underground mining.
  • Skills:
    • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultures and professional levels.
