Job Purpose
The Merchant Advisor will be responsible for driving the Merchant Acquiring Business profitably within the assigned Northern Zone, ensuring compliance with card schemes, operational regulations, and policies. This role requires fostering and maintaining strong relationships with merchants, collaborating closely with branch networks, and engaging Zonal Sales Managers to achieve sales targets and expand the merchant portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Merchant Acquiring:
- Actively recruit and onboard merchants by promoting POS devices, E-commerce, and QR solutions.
- Collaborate with branches and zonal teams to drive merchant acquisition and retention.
- Reporting and Performance Monitoring:
- Prepare and share weekly and monthly sales reports and pipelines with Zonal Management, Branch Management, and Acquiring Business Management.
- Track performance against approved budgets and share budget-versus-actual analysis to monitor progress.
- Merchant Training and Servicing:
- Conduct onboarding, training, and servicing of merchants, ensuring proper orientation and operational readiness of devices.
- Maintain detailed records of all training and servicing activities.
- Portfolio Management:
- Perform regular 360-degree checks on assigned merchant portfolios, identifying growth opportunities.
- Monitor active and inactive devices, reporting status and recommending strategies for improvement.
- Merchant Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure adherence to contractual agreements, vet applications, and verify compliance through site inspections and MATCH system screening.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date merchant documentation.
- Customer Support and Dispute Resolution:
- Provide prompt resolution to internal and external customer queries, maintaining a record of reported issues for review.
- Manage the dispute resolution process, ensuring alignment and timely follow-up with stakeholders.
- Product Cross-Selling:
- Upsell and cross-sell products, including POS devices, E-commerce, and QR solutions, to both internal and external customers.
- Marketing and Branding:
- Supply marketing materials and consumables to branches and zones, ensuring timely replenishment.
- Provide monthly stock reports and track usage to meet operational needs.
- Fraud and Risk Management:
- Identify and manage fraudulent merchants by coordinating investigations and ensuring adherence to due processes.
- Execute the termination process for voluntary and involuntary merchant closures.
- Merchant Workshops:
- Organize zonal-level workshops to disseminate card acquiring best practices to merchants.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years in banking, with at least 3 years specializing in acquiring business.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong business acumen and portfolio management expertise.
- Proficient in sales, with demonstrated skills in cross-selling and upselling.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in planning, organization, and analytical skills.
- High integrity, self-motivation, and adaptability to teamwork.
- Advanced knowledge of card scheme operations.
- Computer literacy in MS Office and statistical tools.
