Introduction
The National Project Coordinator (NPC) will oversee the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of ILO’s Integrated Innovations for Sustainable Development programme under the Zanzibar Joint Programme (ZJP). This role will contribute to achieving ILO’s goals of promoting decent work, sustainable economic growth, and reducing inequalities in Zanzibar, particularly through value chain development in food crops, seaweed, and mariculture.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Project Management: Lead project implementation, ensuring compliance with ILO policies, work plans, and monitoring of project progress.
- Programme Development: Draft proposals, project reviews, and contribute to strategy papers. Monitor progress through review and analysis of work-plans and reports.
- Technical Guidance: Provide support and technical advice to government, social partners, and other stakeholders, particularly on enterprise and skills development.
- Training & Awareness: Organize training programs and activities to raise awareness on fundamental principles and rights at work.
- Gender & Inclusion: Ensure the inclusion of gender equality and non-discrimination across all project activities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate with government, employers’ and workers’ organizations to plan and implement project activities.
- Communication & Reporting: Regularly report on project status and facilitate evaluation. Ensure high-level communications to increase the project’s visibility.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: First-level university degree in economics, law, social sciences, or a related field. An advanced degree in labour economics is a strong advantage.
- Experience: At least three years of experience in project management, administration, and grant implementation.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with value chain development, labour and employment trends in Zanzibar, skills development, poverty reduction, and green jobs.
- Languages: Excellent fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
Competencies
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in basic computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader) and other office-required tools.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a multicultural and gender-sensitive environment.
