Introduction to the Role

Are you passionate about environmental restoration and sustainable development? Join WWF Tanzania as a Project Executant for the IKI FLR Hub, where you’ll play a critical role in implementing transformative forest landscape restoration strategies. This initiative directly supports the global Bonn Challenge, aiming to restore 350 million hectares of degraded and deforested land by 2030.

As part of this impactful project, you’ll contribute to reversing deforestation, sequestering significant carbon emissions, and empowering communities through sustainable livelihoods. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in policy harmonization, facilitate investments, and drive coordinated restoration efforts in Tanzania’s priority landscapes.

Project Overview

The IKI FLR Hub is an ambitious initiative designed to overcome the barriers to forest landscape restoration (FLR) by enhancing governance, fostering partnerships, and facilitating access to funding. Tanzania’s Northern Zone (Korogwe and Kilindi districts) and Central Zone (Mpwapwa and Chamwino districts) have been identified as priority areas due to their ecological significance and potential for restoration.

By addressing deforestation, degraded ecosystems, and socio-economic challenges, this initiative aims to:

  • Restore 200,000 hectares of forest landscapes.
  • Sequester 500,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
  • Strengthen local communities through green job creation, income generation, and enhanced ecosystem services.

Key Responsibilities

As a Project Executant, you will:

  1. Coordinate Multi-Stakeholder Efforts
    • Work with IKI FLR partners (WWF, IUCN, and WRI) to align restoration strategies with Tanzania’s national forest goals.
    • Engage with government focal points to ensure FLR strategies are integrated into existing policies.
  2. Facilitate Restoration Activities
    • Oversee landscape assessments and develop action plans to identify restoration opportunities.
    • Monitor and report progress on FLR interventions at national and landscape levels.
  3. Enhance Funding and Investment Access
    • Connect projects with impact investors, philanthropic donors, and corporate funds.
    • Provide technical assistance to stakeholders to unlock funding opportunities.
  4. Strengthen Monitoring Systems
    • Establish integrated data platforms for tracking FLR progress.
    • Train implementers to use monitoring systems effectively.
  5. Promote Knowledge Sharing
    • Develop communication materials to highlight project milestones.
    • Facilitate information exchange among stakeholders to drive innovative restoration solutions.
  6. Project Administration and Reporting
    • Manage budgets, schedules, and work plans to ensure timely delivery of objectives.
    • Prepare detailed technical and financial reports for donors and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master’s Degree in Forest Management, Environmental Management, Land Use, or related fields.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in restoration, private-sector engagement, and multi-partner project coordination.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of global FLR agreements, such as the Bonn Challenge and AFR100.
  • Proven experience in fundraising for forest conservation projects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and networking skills, with fluency in Kiswahili and English.
