Role Overview:

Position: Tradesperson 2 – Mechanic
Contract Type: Unspecified Time Contract
Department: Engineering
Reporting To: Senior Supervisor – Truck Shop
Number of Positions: One (1)

The Tradesperson 2 – Mechanic will provide support for the maintenance and troubleshooting of Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety and Inspection:
   • Maintain a safe working environment and follow established safety standards.
   • Inspect parked equipment for potential lube leaks to prevent environmental contamination.
2. Maintenance and Repairs:
   • Execute maintenance tasks on mining equipment according to OEM standards.
   • Ensure work quality to maximize equipment uptime and efficiency.
   • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on BELL, CAT, Normet, and other mining equipment models.
3. Planning and Reporting:
   • Plan work assignments effectively before execution.
   • Provide timely updates and reports to the Senior Supervisor or Manager.
4. Quality Assurance:
   • Oversee component rebuilds to meet OEM standards.
   • Complete release checklists before equipment is returned to production.
5. Work Commitment:
   • Deliver assigned tasks within deadlines, minimizing resource wastage.
   • Collaborate with team members to achieve maintenance objectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

• Secondary School Certificate with VETA Trade Test Certificate (Grade One/Level Three) in Mechanics or equivalent.
• Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering.
• Valid Tanzanian Driving License with the ability to operate in a mining environment.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a mechanic working with heavy equipment, including:
  • BELL Trucks (e.g., 835L)
  • Normet Machines
  • R2900 Loader, AD60, CAT Machines
  • RH40 & RH170 Excavators
  • MT 4400AC Equipment
• Proven skills in troubleshooting and maintenance of BELL and CAT equipment.

Skills and Competencies:

• Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals.
• Proficiency in maintaining quality workmanship.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations.
