Accounts Assistant Job Description

Role Overview

As an Accounts Assistant, your primary duty is to provide administrative assistance to the Finance Manager by handling clerical tasks such as organizing files, managing correspondence, making phone calls, overseeing petty cash, responding to emails, and performing fundamental bookkeeping activities.

An ideal candidate for this role should be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, adapting to the company’s culture, market dynamics, and customer needs.

Our customers are entrepreneurs, and as a company, we are dedicated to supporting them in achieving their financial objectives. Therefore, the Accounts Assistant must be actively engaged with the community and equally committed to both our clients and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing daily communication and responding to inquiries
  • Processing Withholding Tax deductions and submitting them to the TRA System
  • Ensuring accuracy in payments, transactions, and financial records
  • Utilizing spreadsheets, sales and purchase ledgers, and journals
  • Recording and archiving cash transactions
  • Administering and maintaining the Fixed Asset Register
  • Handling precise invoice processing and systematic filing
  • Reconciling petty cash and expenses daily and weekly
  • Collaborating with external service providers, clients, and suppliers, particularly regulatory bodies like TRA
  • Updating and maintaining procedural documentation
  • Preparing and issuing cheques and TISS forms when necessary
  • Conducting proper reconciliation of dealership invoices and accounts
  • Undertaking any additional responsibilities assigned by management

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of experience as an Accounts Assistant or Accounting Clerk
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or Economics
  • Understanding of fundamental bookkeeping procedures
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
