About the Position
IUCN seeks a dynamic Chief of Party to lead the “Pamoja Tuhifadhi Bahari Yetu” (Bahari Yetu) project. This initiative, funded by the European Union, focuses on enhancing environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in Tanzania’s coastal and marine ecosystems. It aligns with Tanzania’s National Development Plan, Blue Economy strategies, and the Great Blue Wall Initiative.
The Chief of Party will oversee project implementation, manage resources, collaborate with partners, and ensure the delivery of high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Management
- Develop and implement annual work plans, procurement plans, and budgets.
- Supervise project teams, service providers, and consultants.
- Ensure compliance with IUCN and EU policies, including financial management and procurement standards.
- Participate in meetings with stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and NGOs.
2. Policy and Partnerships
- Establish strong relationships with partners, donors, and government agencies.
- Ensure synergy among stakeholders and coherence within the seascapes team.
- Strengthen networks for collaboration at national and sub-regional levels.
3. Technical Leadership and Capacity Building
- Provide technical inputs for workshops, studies, and advisory services.
- Integrate cross-cutting themes like gender, youth inclusion, and knowledge management.
- Lead on communication and outreach strategies.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Track progress through an M&E framework and ensure compliance with environmental safeguards.
- Prepare technical outputs and reports.
- Contribute to Tanzania’s and IUCN’s overall programme evaluation frameworks.
5. Programme Development
- Explore opportunities for policy engagement with government ministries.
- Lead funding proposal development for expanding ocean resilience initiatives.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Natural Resources Management, Marine Sciences, Environmental Science, or related fields.
- Proficiency in office applications and online communication tools.
Experience
- 12+ years in environmental project management, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven expertise in addressing social dimensions of conservation.
- Experience in donor relations, network development, and alliance building.
Language Proficiency
- Fluency in English and Swahili.
