Background

IUCN, established in 1948, is a global membership Union with over 1,400 Member organizations and 16,000 experts. It aims to conserve nature and promote sustainable development through collaborative efforts.

In Tanzania, IUCN has been operational for over four decades, addressing various conservation priorities. The Scaling-up Nature-based Solutions for Climate Change Resilience in Tanzania (RESOLVE-NbS) project focuses on enhancing social and ecological resilience to climate change through ecosystem-based adaptation and natural resource management.

The project’s primary objectives include:

  1. Enhancing awareness, capacity, and knowledge management for improved NbS planning and implementation.
  2. Implementing NbS to support ecosystem-based adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and conservation goals.
  3. Integrating gender-sensitive and climate-smart NbS into policies and strategies.

Position Overview

The Programme Officer, Climate Resilience, will oversee and coordinate the implementation of the RESOLVE-NbS project. The role involves project management, stakeholder engagement, financial oversight, and knowledge dissemination.


Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Oversee planning, implementation, and reporting of the RESOLVE-NbS project.
  • Provide technical guidance to partners and ensure alignment with the project’s objectives.
  • Develop work plans, budgets, and schedules for project activities.
  • Lead advocacy efforts to mainstream NbS with public and private actors.
  • Ensure participatory development of climate adaptation interventions.

Financial Management

  • Contribute to project budgeting and financial oversight.
  • Ensure timely implementation of activities within budget constraints.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure accountability for funds.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Knowledge Management

  • Develop and apply project monitoring instruments in coordination with the M&E Officer.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports to IUCN and donors.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned.
  • Facilitate dissemination of communication materials to target audiences.

Fundraising and Project Development

  • Identify funding opportunities to scale project activities.
  • Support the development of high-quality proposals.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders and donors.

Representation and Networking

  • Represent IUCN in policy, technical, and strategic forums.
  • Build relationships with government entities, private sector actors, and community organizations.

Requirements

Education

  • Post-graduate degree in environmental science, resource economics, climate change, public finance management, or related fields.
  • Foundational knowledge of NbS, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem management.
  • Computer literacy in office applications and online communication tools.
  • Additional certifications in climate change or conservation are an advantage.

Work Experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in natural resource management, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, or sustainable development.
  • Familiarity with Tanzania’s climate change policies and institutional frameworks.
  • Proven track record in capacity building, knowledge management, and project monitoring.
  • Experience working with local governments, community groups, and private sector actors.

Languages

  • Fluency in English and Swahili (written and verbal).
