Job Summary

Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Mining Engineer to join our team at the Mtwara Plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting sub-surface surveys, designing and implementing mining plans, and ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible extraction and development operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial surveys, risk assessments, and environmental impact assessments on potential mining sites to determine feasibility.
  • Plan and design underground or surface mining operations, specifying processes, manpower, and equipment for safe and economical mineral extraction.
  • Implement and monitor mine development activities, systems, and equipment performance.
  • Inspect mining areas to identify and mitigate unsafe conditions, structures, or practices.
  • Analyze geological data, maps, and drilling results to evaluate the size, accessibility, and profitability of mineral deposits.
  • Select or develop extraction and production methods based on deposit characteristics, safety, and cost efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation for use by management and engineering teams.
  • Monitor mine production rates to evaluate operational performance and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare schedules, budgets, and cost estimates for mine development and operations.
  • Design and supervise the construction of mine shafts, tunnels, and other underground infrastructure.
  • Assess environmental impacts of mining operations and develop rehabilitation and reclamation strategies.
  • Evaluate and introduce innovative mining technologies, software, and automation systems to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Design and maintain computer-based mine design, mapping, and monitoring applications.
  • Coordinate and implement mine safety programs, including training, rescue systems, and safety audits.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Mines.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Competencies

Education

  •  Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mining Engineering or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of mining experience in operations, engineering, or project evaluation.
  • Proven expertise in underground mine design and development.
  • Prior experience in the cement manufacturing industry is an added advantage.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of mineral estate economics, mining legislation, health and safety standards, and environmental practices.
  • Proficient in mine planning and design software such as MineSight, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
  • Competence in surveying technologies, cost estimation, and equipment selection.
  • Excellent data interpretation and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Sound scientific and mathematical background with a methodical, quality-oriented work approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
