Position: Senior Manager; Data Management And Analytics

Job Purpose:

To define and execute the Bank’s data strategy, coordination of the execution of enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on data quality and the protection of data privacy to ensure the development of master/reference data in the provision of business intelligence, advanced analytics, and AI solutions.

Main Responsibilities:

• Lead strategy around the planning, analysis, and design of the Enterprise Data Platform (Modern Data Stack) to ensure alignment with the overall informatics strategy to build out bank strategic plans.
• Collaborate with Data Science teams to establish feature stores, data lineage, and quality checks specifically designed for Machine Learning pipelines.
• Maintain adherence to strategic direction and standards of technology in support of information delivery and analytics.
• Lead the execution of the data management program, which aims to implement data management best practices with the focus on improving data quality and data governance as a foundation.
• Lead the development & execution of the data strategy that aligns with the business strategy.
• Manage and attain customer expectations and ensure delivery fulfills expectations.
• Produce meaningful metrics and offer fact-based insights to help guide strategies for brand positioning, customer retention, and development, pricing, product innovation, industry competition, and cost-effective methods of attracting new business.
• Lead a team of Data Stewards and Specialists in data exploration and quality assurance in support of business strategies.
• Drive best practices around Advanced Analytics and AI Readiness with the team.
• Support business requirements on reporting environment by defining and implementing reporting strategy; Act as link between technical team and business; interpret business requirements, define technical vision and ensure business needs are met.
• Empower business teams by implementing a Data Catalog so business users can become self-sufficient in using data platforms (Data Democratization).
• Serve as a key liaison for Data Privacy compliance, ensuring all data management practices adhere to Tanzanian banking regulations and Global standards (e.g., GDPR principles) regarding customer PII.
• Drive the performance of current and new product initiatives by leveraging appropriate statistical techniques and infrastructure.
• Manage the life cycle of data integration, data transmission, and operational analytics into enterprise data environments and modern data platforms.
• Lead the strategic technical planning, analysis, and design of the integrated analytical information assets of the Modern data platforms.
• Establish a clear data quality policy for the bank; Provide high level of data quality awareness across multiple staff profiles within the bank.
• Research and determine scope and complexity of data quality issues to identify steps to fix issues.
• Ensure a consistency review of post-load audits to identify, compare, and resolve data quality problems.
• Provide strategic direction to Data Management & Governance unit and ensure alignment and in support of the bank-wide strategy.
• Hire and continue to build a world-class data management & governance team.
• Ensure the development of a high-performing team through embedding formal Performance appraisal and informal coaching. Manage the team on how to conduct meaningful Performance appraisal discussions with their direct reports and ensure that they conduct the process effectively.

Knowledge and Skills:

• An understanding of data management practice & DAMA framework.
• Programming languages e.g. SQL, Python, R, ETL, Modern data platforms, Cloud Data Warehousing / Lakehouse architecture, & BI.
• Good knowledge of DAMA framework and data management domains.
• Thorough knowledge of the main data collection features and data elements relationship.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business or related fields.
• Data management body of knowledge (DAMA DMBOK2) certification or equivalent is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), modern data platforms, analytics, MI or Business Analysis
• Experience in leading Data Management initiatives is desirable
