Norges Vel (The Royal Norwegian Society for Development) is an international NGO with more than 200 years of history in supporting rural economic development. In East Africa, we specialise in strengthening commercially oriented agriculture and aquaculture value chains, enabling small scale producers to transition from subsistence to profitable and climate-resilient enterprises.

Job Summary
Norges Vel Tanzania is seeking a technically strong and business-oriented Aquaculture Project Coordinator to support the development and implementation of our aquaculture portfolio in Tanzania. As our tilapia value chain project in Ifakara, Morogoro is in an exciting start-up phase, this role will lead its establishment and rollout, and help shape systems, approaches and partnerships from the beginning. The role includes providing technical guidance on semi intensive tilapia pond aquaculture systems, strengthening value chain linkages, supporting capacity development of small-scale producers, and contributing to commercially viable models for sustainable aquaculture of tilapia oriented. The position involves frequent in-country travel.-oriented.
The position involves close collaboration with national and local sector actors, research institutions, private sector companies, and financial service providers. You will contribute to project planning, implementation, and monitoring, as well as the development of new aquaculture initiatives and partnerships.
Specific Roles
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical guidance on semi-intensive tilapia pond aquaculture, including production planning, pond management, feeding strategies, biosecurity, and climate resilient practices.
- Support the development and scaling of commercially viable production models for small-scale farmers.
Value Chain Development
- Strengthen linkages across the aquaculture value chain—producers, input suppliers, hatcheries, feed companies, buyers, and finance partners.
- Contribute to analyses on profitability, market access, input supply, and finance needs.
Capacity Building
- Design and deliver high-quality training and coaching for farmers and local partners, on good aquaculture practices.
Project Management
- Support development of work plans, budgets, and reporting.
- Ensure accurate inputs to monitoring systems and contribute to learning and documentation.
Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong operational partnerships with government, private sector, research institutions, and farmer organisations.

Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Aquatic Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of proven, hands-on experience in pond-based aquaculture; experience with tilapia systems is a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated experience supporting small-scale farmers to commercialise production through improved farm management, business planning, and value chain integration.
- Experience working in or with development programmes, NGOs, research institutions, or private aquaculture companies.
- Experience in designing and delivering farmer training, including Training-of-Trainers (ToT) approaches.
- Experience supervising field staff, extension officers, or farmer trainers, including mentoring and capacity development.

Technical Competencies

- Ability to analyse farm performance data, develop production plans, and use tools such as Excel or KoboTool box.
- Understanding of value chain dynamics, including input supply, market access, and linkages with private-sector actors.

- Ability to build capacity of staff, partners, and farmer groups through mentoring, coaching, and clear guidance.
- Ability to facilitate teamwork and support cross-functional collaboration.

- Excellent communication skills in English and Swahili, both written and verbal.
- Ability to represent Norges Vel professionally with government, private sector, research institutions, and farmer organisations.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
