Job Summary:

The SME Credit Officer ensures adherence to the approved Credit and Provisioning Policy, standard credit processes, and procedures. The role focuses on credit solutions development, business risk partnership, and portfolio management, working collaboratively with relationship managers and credit teams to support NBC’s objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Understanding the Credit/Solutions Development (30%)

• Assess customers’ businesses by analyzing credit and business risks associated with bank products and services.
• Develop high-quality credit solutions to facilitate timely and informed credit decisions.
• Act as a joint contact for credit management purposes with accountants, solicitors, and professionals.
• Sanction or prepare credit applications for recommendations beyond personal discretion.

2. Business Risk Partnership (30%)

• Collaborate with Relationship Managers (RMs) on credit applications, providing guidance on credit appetite.
• Liaise with the Head of Credit or sanctioning office for credits outside personal discretion.
• Attend client meetings with RMs to address and resolve credit-related issues.
• Support change management initiatives to improve processes, reduce costs, and enhance quality.
• Assist with industry-specific focus as determined by corporate or credit teams.

3. Portfolio Management – Monitoring and Control (30%)

• Manage financial information produced by customers.
• Oversee risk reports, addressing control lapses and identifying potential risks.
• Monitor and control portfolio quality using Condition of Sanction triggers.
• Communicate deteriorating trends and trigger events to sanctioners and RMs.

4. Teamwork (10%)

• Support team leaders in performance development and mentoring team members.
• Foster the application of NBC guiding principles and coach colleagues to enhance team success.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Educational Background:
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Advanced Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
• Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in loan appraisals, monitoring, or customer acquisition.
  • Knowledge of NBC’s end-to-end loan application processes.
  • Proven experience managing customer situations in complex decisions.
  • Familiarity with industry trends and business-to-business financial services.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Decisiveness and initiating action.
• Strong financial analysis and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication and comprehension skills for interpreting industry data and economic trends.
• Proficiency in presenting business cases and solutions internally and externally.
• Leadership and team-working skills.
• Familiarity with IT systems and core banking platforms (e.g., Flex).
