Role Overview & Key Responsibilities

The Team Lead, FMCG / Manufacturing drives UBA Tanzania’s corporate and commercial banking growth across the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and manufacturing sectors. The role leads a dedicated sector team to acquire corporate clients, structure trade finance and working capital facilities, expand low-cost deposit liabilities, and manage sector credit risk.

  • Business Development & Portfolio Growth: Lead client acquisition across consumer goods distributors, industrial manufacturers, and processing firms; achieve set targets for PBT/revenue, risk assets, bank guarantees, low-cost deposits, and foreign exchange volume.

  • Credit Appraisal & Risk Control: Screen credit applications, prepare detailed credit memoranda, and track approved risk triggers, conditions, and covenants; initiate prompt recovery actions on watch-listed or non-performing accounts.

  • Site Inspections & Client Engagement: Conduct regular customer site visits to review manufacturing plants, warehouses, inventory management, and collateral; serve as the dedicated point of contact for executive leadership.

  • Product Tailoring & Market Research: Collaborate with Product Development to structure sector-specific trade, cash management, and working capital solutions; research industry trends, regulatory changes, and economic shifts to protect bank assets.

  • Team Leadership & Performance: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate direct and indirect reporting Relationship Managers and Officers to ensure sector commercial targets are met.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: First degree in a Business-related field or Social Sciences from a recognized university. (Higher degrees, MBA, or relevant professional banking certifications are an added advantage).

  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive commercial banking experience, with direct exposure to Corporate Banking credit, relationship management, and the FMCG / Manufacturing sector.

  • Core Competencies: In-depth knowledge of FMCG working capital cycles, trade finance, invoice discounting, credit appraisal, and risk asset management.

  • Leadership & Analytical Skills: Proven ability to manage corporate portfolios under pressure, lead sales teams, negotiate complex credit structures, and demonstrate strong analytical judgment.
