Role overview
This Trade Finance Manager vacancy covers driving, structuring, and managing the Bank's trade finance portfolio, with a special focus on off-balance sheet (OBS) contingent liabilities across approved sectors.
Key responsibilities
- Managing regional trade finance activities, covering Group syndication files and cross-border transactions.
- Design suitable structures, processes, and end-to-end workflows for trade finance products linking front-office and back-office functions.
- Summary of Responsibilities.
- The role focuses on generating Non-Funded Income (NFI), supporting front-line business teams, ensuring operational compliance, and optimizing turnaround times to maximize client wallet share and revenue.
- Reports To: Head of Corporate Banking.
- Drive, structure, and expand the Bank's trade finance portfolio, focusing on off-balance sheet contingent liabilities.
- 2. Transaction Processing & Product Structuring.
- Managing operational risk inside the department to prevent financial or reputational losses while maintaining complete compliance with BOA policies and procedures.
- Actively promote BOA's trade finance capabilities via formal presentations and business interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Key Duties and Responsibilities.
- Managing the performance of subordinate staff, designing training and development plans aligned with business goals.
- Collaborate with the Deputy Managing Director / Head of Enterprise Unit to analyze quantitative and qualitative branch achievements and advise on trade unit roadmaps.
- Managing and monitor team workflow across the branch network so that alignment with corporate targets.
- 5. Leadership & Capability Building.
- Import/Export Letters of Credit (LCs), Documentary Collections, Bills Avalisation, Guarantees, Standby LCs, and Trade Loans.. This as well covers reviewing and process trade finance instruments,.
- Target and generate Non-Funded Income (NFI) across every OBS products and trade finance offerings.
- Preparing and analyze comprehensive credit applications for presentation to the Credit Department.
- Partner with Branch Managers (BM), Relationship Managers (RM), and Relationship Officers (RO) to plan and execute sales strategies for new and repeat business.
- Identify and negotiate business development opportunities with clients to increase the Bank's overall wallet share.
- 4. Operational Risk, SLAs, & Governance.
- 1. Portfolio Management & Revenue Generation.
- Developing and implement Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with internal departments to improve transaction Turnaround Time (TAT).
- Arranging branch trade finance activities, covering staff training, activation workshops, and branch visits.
- 3. Business Support & Network Execution.
Requirements
- High level of integrity, analytical rigor, organization, and initiative.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Marketing, Commerce, or Banking. A Master's Degree or specialized trade finance training is a useful extra.
- Strong knowledge of broad banking operations and sales techniques.
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making capabilities.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in banking and trade finance operations.
- Excellent negotiation, selling, networking, and customer service skills.
- Strong risk awareness and profitability mindset.
- Deep understanding of foreign and international trade operations, techniques, procedures, and products.
- Advanced credit analysis and technical structuring skills for trade finance solutions.
