Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Ensure the safety, health and well-being of all students.
  • Guide and supervise students at all times, ensuring that they follow established rules, routines and study schedules.
  • Promote and organize extracurricular activities.
  • Help create a positive, supportive and family-like atmosphere within the boarding house.
  • Ensure students are neat, punctual, respectful and properly prepared for all school activities.
  • Uphold all safety, security and child-protection procedures.
  • Report and follow up promptly on any issues affecting students.
  • Participate actively in meetings and training sessions to improve their skills and contribute to the boarding team.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating discipline, commitment and care toward all students.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants must:

  • Be Tanzanian.
  • Hold at least a Diploma in Education, Psychology or Counselling.
  • Have a minimum of three years’ experience working as a School Matron in secondary schools within East Africa.
  • Be at least 30 years old, mature and experienced enough to provide parental care to teenagers.
  • Demonstrate empathy for the needs and feelings of children and adolescents.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, which is used as the medium of instruction.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Be willing to work overnight.
  • Be willing and able to adapt to the school’s diverse policies and procedures.
  • Support students’ overall development through holistic education.
  • Be willing to work on weekends when required to support students and student activities.

Previous medical or nursing experience will be an added advantage.
