Job Purpose
The Teacher Assistant (LCE Program) supports the lead Special Education and general classroom teachers in delivering personalized learning interventions. This role reinforces academic lessons, assists with Student Support Plans (SSPs), tutors students individually or in small groups, tracks developmental progress, and ensures a safe, inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Instructional Support & Classroom Management:
-
Work alongside lead teachers to monitor class schedules, prepare learning materials, and set up educational equipment.

Revise and reinforce lesson concepts with individual students or small groups focusing on modified grade-level content and foundational skills.

Assist lead teachers in developing tailored lesson plans and tracking student goals outlined in their Student Support Plans (SSPs).

Student Welfare & Behavioral Guidance:
-
Exercise patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement to support students with various learning and physical needs.

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment adhering to health, safety, and child protection standards.

Supervise students during non-classroom transition periods, lunch breaks, field trips, and homeroom advisory sessions.

Documentation & Stakeholder Collaboration:

Document daily student progress, behavioral reflections, and academic achievements to inform lead teachers and parents.

Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and parents to identify learning hurdles and implement practical solutions.

Participate actively in staff meetings, parent evenings, and ongoing professional development workshops.

Candidate Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Professional Background:
-
Educational Background: Mandatory Bachelor’s Degree in Special Needs Education from a recognized institution.
-
Work Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of direct teaching or teaching assistant experience in special education or inclusive learning environments.

Curriculum Familiarity: Prior exposure to or training in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) or Diploma Programme (DP) is highly desirable.

Residency Requirement: Candidates must currently be based in Tanzania.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Strong understanding of inclusive classroom best practices, child protection protocols, and health/safety procedures.
