Job Description:
SPECIFIC TASKS OF THE ROLE (Key Performance Indicators / Responsibilities & Expected Results)
Liquidity & Cash Management. Monitor daily cash positions, maintain banking relationship and bank’s accounts per mandate, and prepare liquidity reports using central bank templates. The role involves managing treasury operations, placement of fixed deposits, monitoring liquidity position and funding requirements. Branch & liquidity support: i.e., support branch-level cash availability, internal controls for cash holding and/or transfers and manage internal fund transfers.
Deal Processing & Settlement. Ensure accurate booking, validation, and settlement of foreign exchange (FX) and money market deals. Coordinate and negotiate foreign exchange deals to ensure competitive market rates. Maintain daily records and monitor FX and FD rate trends in the market for management review and pricing purpose. Ensure accurate booking and tracking of all FX and money market deals. Monitor maturity of fixed deposits and ensure timely settlement of all deals. Maintain comprehensive records of treasury transactions including FX and fixed deposits.
Regulatory Compliance. Submit required statutory reports and adhere to central bank guidelines and internal risk policies.
Reconciliation. Collaborate with finance and reconciliation units to clear outstanding items and resolve discrepancies. Monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts including loan interest accrual schedule(s) and respective accounting records maintained, fixed deposit accounts (FDRs), financial & market securities accounts, interest income from investment and revenue streams (e.g., fees & commission).
Relationship with lenders and compliance with covenants. Maintaining a strong relationship with lenders. It involves consistent communication and strict compliance with loan covenants, other specific tasks include:
- Create pipelines and establishing contacts with potential lenders/ funders.
- Coordinating initial engagements to introduce lenders/ funders.
- Maintaining monthly updates of VFT’s profile for potential lenders/funders consumption.
- Coordinating and disseminating information needed for undertaking due diligence processes.
- Maintaining all paperwork relating to lenders and loans.
- Work with lenders and banks to ensure complete registration of all loans as per central bank requirements.
- Engage with lenders on technical assistance opportunities that VFT may benefit from.
- Preparing monthly foreign debts reports required by the Central Bank.
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulations with respect to foreign debts.
- Preparing reports in the format and frequency required by lenders.
- Maintaining a current covenants compliance report for management consumption.
- Maintain repayment calendar/schedule for all the loans, put the finance manager in the loop to ensure availability of funds for loan repayments.
- Monthly reconciliation between loan interest accrual schedules and accounts records maintained in the system.
- Work in collaboration with finance team/ unit(s) to ensure compliance with terms and conditions of grant(s) and related reporting requirements.
Month-end and year-end financial close & reporting and audits:
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate month-end closing and reporting
- Support audit in all matter relating to fixed deposits, projects and VFT lenders
Other duties:
- Opening staff accounts for new staffs
- Updating staff accounts
- Staff loan processing
- Any other duties as will be assigned by Supervisor.
Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:
List academic, technical skills or other knowledge required as a minimum qualification for this position.
· Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
· CPA or equivalent will be preferred.
· Must have a General Understanding of Microfinance Industry and/or banking
· Good communication skills both spoken and written.
· Finance/Accounting Background. Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures, basic understanding of IFRS, awareness of business trends and familiarity with financial statements.
· Good analytical & reporting skills.
· Good Understanding of local regulatory requirements especially around foreign debt.
List additional skills and work experience required or this position.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
· Model and demonstrate effective Christian values.
· Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end financial close.
· Hands-on experience with accounting software packages. Advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
· Accuracy and attention to detail, aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
