Location: Bulyanhulu / Buzwagi Gold Mine, Kahama, Tanzania
Department: Underground Mining Operations
Reporting To: Underground Mine Captain / Mine Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent

Job Purpose

The UG Shift Boss is responsible for supervising underground mining crews, ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations and the Mines Act, and driving daily operational shift targets. This role leads on-site safety initiatives, task delegation, equipment management, and underground shift performance.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Underground Shift Supervision & Execution:
- Direct and supervise underground crews, prioritizing operational tasks and delegating workloads to meet daily production plans.
- Monitor shift progress, provide clear technical leadership, and foster high team performance.
- Assist in resourcing personnel and machinery to meet underground operational requirements.
- Maintain routine, transparent communication with the Mine Manager and cross-departmental supervisory teams.
Safety, Health & Environmental Compliance:
- Enforce full compliance with the Mines Act, Project Safety Management Plan, and workplace environmental standards.
- Drive a culture of Zero Harm by conducting hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety toolbox meetings.
- Lead accident and incident investigations, implementing effective corrective actions.
- Oversee safety inductions, site training, and continuous safety initiatives for all reporting personnel.
Technical & Operational Support:
- Read and interpret underground mining layouts, drawings, and technical specifications to guide crew execution.
- Oversee underground track mining methods and equipment usage for maximum efficiency and safety.

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements

Education & Certifications:

Valid Underground Shift Boss Certificate / Certification in Mining Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Valid Tanzanian Driving License.

Experience & Competencies:

Proven supervisory experience in an underground mining environment, with deep knowledge of underground track mining methods.
Minimum of 1 to 3+ years of progressive underground mining experience with strong leadership capabilities.
Robust safety background with expertise in Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) and safety management systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (Swahili is an added advantage).
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access).
