Role Profile:
This role is responsible for driving the development, innovation, management, and growth of digital payment products and value-added solutions that serve Businesses, Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The role will identify market opportunities, business needs, and emerging industry trends to develop innovative products and services that enhance customer experience, increase adoption, drive transaction growth, and deliver sustainable business value. The position holder will own the end-to-end product lifecycle from opportunity identification and product discovery through product delivery, commercialization, and continuous optimization.
Working closely with cross-functional teams and ecosystem partners, the role will champion customer-centric innovation and ensure the successful delivery of scalable, secure, and commercially viable solutions that support the growth of M-Pesa’s Business and SME portfolio.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Customer-focused product leader who is passionate about digital payments, fintech innovation and SME growth. The role requires close collaboration with Technology, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Operations, Customer Experience, Commercial teams and external ecosystem partners to deliver products that enhance customer experience, increase adoption, grow transaction volumes and generate sustainable business value.
Responsible for developing and managing the product roadmap, defining product vision and value propositions, shaping customer journeys, and ensuring that product priorities are aligned with business objectives and customer needs. The role will also lead product development and implementation activities, coordinate testing and launch readiness, support go-to-market execution, and use performance insights to drive continuous improvement.
A strong focus on customer and market insight is essential. The role will involve conducting market research, analysing customer behaviour and product performance, gathering customer feedback, and converting insights into actionable product initiatives. The successful candidate will also drive commercial growth by monitoring product profitability, customer engagement, retention, transaction trends and revenue performance, while developing dashboards and regular reporting for product and portfolio reviews.
Strong stakeholder and partnership management skills. The position holder will work with internal teams, financial institutions, technology providers, service providers and other ecosystem partners to build solutions that enhance product capability and customer value. In addition, the role will ensure that all products comply with applicable regulatory, legal, risk and governance requirements, with appropriate controls, documentation and approvals maintained throughout the product lifecycle.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field, with at least five years’ experience in product management, digital payments, fintech, mobile money, banking, financial services or a related sector. Experience in managing products across the full lifecycle, developing product roadmaps and business cases, working with cross-functional teams, and applying strong commercial, analytical and problem-solving skills will be critical. Experience managing ecosystem partnerships will be an added advantage.
