Role Purpose

The Social Worker serves as the Head of the Children’s Department at AOHM. Working closely with the AOHM Matron and Project Manager, the incumbent oversees child protection, admissions, care planning, regulatory documentation, and reunification processes while ensuring compliance with Tanzanian social welfare guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Departmental Leadership & Management:

    • Serve as the Head of the AOHM Children’s Department, collaborating closely with the AOHM Matron.

    • Act as the Children’s Department representative during management meetings.

    • Prepare weekly, monthly, half-yearly, and annual departmental progress reports.

    • Attend all required management, departmental, and general staff meetings.

  • Social Welfare Compliance & Reporting:

    • Maintain and update registered children’s records in accordance with national social welfare laws, guidelines, and statutory forms.

    • Collaborate with the Project Manager to compile and submit quarterly social welfare reports (4 reports per year) to the Kilolo District Social Welfare Office.

    • Document comprehensive care plans for all residing children in partnership with the Matron.

  • Admissions, Assessment & Child Protection:

    • Conduct field-level poverty assessments for vulnerable families and new admissions, documenting reports for submission to the German Board.

    • Review and monitor incoming child support requests in collaboration with management, advising applicants on proper statutory procedures.

    • Liaise with social welfare officers, government authorities, and the Police Gender Desk to ensure complete case file maintenance.

    • Participate actively in multidisciplinary child protection teams and case review meetings.

  • Child Development, Guidance & Psychosocial Support:

    • Provide individual counseling and conduct structured intake interviews with children.

    • Organize and design therapeutic children’s clubs, music, and sports activities aimed at stress relief and emotional wellbeing.

    • Provide career guidance and participate in school disciplinary meetings involving AOHM children.

    • Collaborate with management to organize computer literacy and entrepreneurship training programs.

  • Academic Tracking & Family Reunification:

    • Work alongside the Project Manager to track and secure school placements for children transitioning across educational levels.

    • Coordinate and lead family reunification meetings for youth reaching 18 years of age and compile final transition reports.

  • Inter-Agency Collaboration:

    • Build and maintain working relationships with local hospitals, the Gender Desk, and both central and local government agencies.

Reporting Requirements

The Social Worker reports directly to the Project Manager and is required to submit:

  1. Monthly Progress Reports: Detailing program implementation and department metrics.

  2. Case Reports: Documenting specific interventions with children and families.

  3. Incident Reports: Immediate documentation for critical situations or emergencies.

  4. Annual Reports: Comprehensive summaries of yearly achievements and challenges for the German Board and statutory stakeholders.
