Role Overview
Britam Insurance Tanzania is seeking an Assistant Accountant to oversee client and intermediary account reconciliations, premium collection, and credit control operations. Reporting to the Management Accountant, the role holder will ensure strict adherence to the “cash before cover” policy, verify premium payments for claims processing, manage commission disbursements, and resolve queries from brokers, agents, and direct clients.
Key Duties & Responsibilities

Cash Flow & Premium Collection: Monitor customer accounts daily, enforce “cash before cover” policies, allocate daily receipts, and collaborate with underwriters to match unallocated funds.

Intermediary Reconciliation & Commissions: Perform monthly reconciliations with brokers and agents, send monthly statements by the 10th, and process timely commission payments by the first week of every month.

Claims Verification: Verify premium payments within 24 hours prior to claim processing to avoid delays or unauthorized payouts.

Customer & Branch Support: Address direct client and agency queries immediately, supporting credit control and receivable strategies across all branches and regional operations.

Internal Collaboration & Reporting: Provide account data to sales, underwriting, and claims departments, while tracking performance metrics against departmental scorecards and debtor targets.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Work Experience: 2 to 3 years of experience in a similar accounting or credit control role.

Industry Knowledge: Understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks (TIRA guidelines) and insurance product dynamics.

Key Performance Metrics: Evaluated on debtors ratio, turnaround time (TAT) for receipt allocations, commission payments, and reconciliation speed.
