Job Purpose
The Manager Impairment and Regulatory Reporting leads the development, governance, and end-to-end execution of credit impairment processes (IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss) and regulatory submissions. The role ensures compliance with Bank of Tanzania (BoT) prudential regulations and international accounting standards, delivering precise, timely, and actionable risk analytics to support financial reporting and executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

IFRS 9 ECL Management & Modeling:
-
Lead end-to-end IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL) staging, provisioning, and reporting.
-
Oversee calibration, validation, and monitoring of PD, LGD, EAD, and Loss Rate models for Tanzanian and subsidiary portfolios.

Incorporate forward-looking macroeconomic variables (GDP, inflation, exchange rates) and perform portfolio analytics on NPL movements and sector exposures.

BoT Regulatory Reporting & Compliance:

Lead preparation and timely submission of all BoT regulatory returns (capital adequacy, asset quality, large exposures, liquidity, and balance sheet).

Ensure alignment between IFRS 9 outputs and BoT statutory provisioning rules; interpret and implement new BoT circulars and BAFIA directives.

Act as the primary liaison for BoT supervisory reviews, inspections, and audit inquiries.

Data Governance & System Automation:

Collaborate with IT, Data, and MIS teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of data feeds into IFRS 9 engines.

Drive automation and efficiency enhancements across regulatory reporting systems to mitigate operational risk.

Stakeholder Engagement & Team Leadership:
-
Provide key credit risk insights to executive committees including ALCO, the Capital Management Committee (CMC), and the Board Risk Committee.

Lead, mentor, and build technical capability among credit risk analysts in IFRS 9 modeling and financial data analytics.

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements
Education & Certifications:
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Master’s degree is an added advantage.

Professional Certifications: CPA(T), ACCA, CFA, or FRM are highly desirable.
Experience:
-
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in banking (preferably in Tanzania or East Africa) with deep exposure to credit risk measurement and local regulatory frameworks.

Hands-on experience in IFRS 9 impairment execution, ECL modeling, and Bank of Tanzania regulatory reporting.
Technical & Behavioral Competencies:

Comprehensive understanding of Basel II/III principles, BAFIA, BoT prudential guidelines, ICAAP, and local macroeconomic risk factors.

Proficiency in quantitative analysis using Excel, SQL, SAS, or Python, with direct experience using core banking platforms and IFRS 9 calculation engines.

Exceptional analytical precision, leadership capability, and communication skills for regulatory and board-level reporting under tight deadlines.
