Job Purpose

The Network Administrator oversees the installation, maintenance, configuration, and security of Watu’s network infrastructure, data centers, and computing systems across the head office and branch network. Reporting to IT leadership, this role manages escalated networking tickets, maintains network uptime, executes firewall and endpoint security protocols, and supervises junior IT officers.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Network & Infrastructure Administration:

    • Configure, deploy, and maintain core network hardware including firewalls, switches, routers, server racks, and network cabling.

    • Oversee localized data center operations, Wide Area Networks (WANs), cloud architectures, and large VPN setups.

    • Provide technical administration for call center IT infrastructure, domain controllers, and peripheral devices.

    • Monitor network performance using advanced tools like Grafana, Zabbix, or Wireshark to ensure 99.9% uptime.

  • IT Security, Compliance & Audits:

    • Manage endpoint protection and enforce network security protocols across all company devices.

    • Review firewall security analytics (Sophos, Fortinet), address vulnerabilities, and escalate critical threats to the group security division.

    • Perform periodic audits of system permissions, administrative access, and network throughput.

    • Maintain up-to-date network architecture and configuration documentation in compliance with corporate standards.

  • Support & Team Leadership:

    • Resolve escalated network, server, and system administration tickets within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

    • Train, coach, and mentor the IT Network Administrator Officer to maintain high operational standards.

    • Evaluate external IT vendors and service providers to ensure optimal performance and service quality.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Response SLA: Maintain a 100% response rate for assigned tickets within average SLA timeframes.

  • Resolution SLA: Resolve at least 95% of assigned network and infrastructure tickets within SLA timeframes.

  • Incident Reporting: Investigate and report 100% of network/infrastructure incidents within 3 working days.

  • Uptime Standard: Maintain a 99.9% network and infrastructure uptime across Watu operations.

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, NSE, MTCNA) are highly desirable.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional IT experience.

  • At least 5 years of direct experience as a Network Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Network Administrator.

Technical Competencies & Skills:

  • Networking Hardware: Hands-on experience with Cisco, Ubiquiti, and MikroTik networking equipment.

  • Firewalls & Security: Proficient in managing Sophos, Fortinet, VPNs, and Active Directory environments.

  • Operating Systems & Servers: Practical expertise in Linux Servers, MS Windows Servers, and Virtual Machine (VM) environments.

  • Monitoring Tools: Practical experience using Grafana, Zabbix, or Wireshark.

  • Collaboration Tools: Familiarity with Google Workspace, Spiceworks, Jira, or GitLab.
